This month's new Moon brings an interesting dynamic into our lives - one of reflection, meditation and taking some time out. Impossible! I hear many say. Yes, indeed, hard to do nowadays. A moment of time out can take many forms; it can go on for hours or be over in a wink of an eye... regardless of the time frame involved in this moment of interior distraction, we need it and how. There are a few things backing this up, issues to do with momentary pauses and refreshing the mind, body and emotions are really asking for our attention.
The following is from my book The Sabian Symbols as an Oracle - published in the United States under the title 360 Degrees of Wisdom: Charting Your Destiny With the Sabian Oracle:
This new Moon at Leo 13: AN OLD SEA CAPTAIN ROCKING ON THE PORCH OF HIS COTTAGE
Commentary: ‘An Old Sea Captain’ is ‘Rocking on the Porch of His Cottage’. This Symbol is an image of someone who has put a lot of time and energy into his life’s work, and has now reached the point where he can take time out, to rest and relax. However, being an ‘Old Sea Captain’, the love of the sea and adventure will be with him forever. He may or may not be retired; whatever, he is taking a break. He now has a chance to get on with more domestic matters and to seek peace and quiet "on the Porch of His Cottage".
Oracle: There is a need for quiet reflection, to look back at past experiences, especially those times that may have seemed threatening. Take some time for a little solitude and to contemplate the overall picture. When you are back into the business of life you will be refreshed and have a better idea of how you fit into the big picture. Feeling tired and reluctant to get on with one’s job can lead to a feeling of failure and missed opportunities. There may be a need to take time out to contemplate your home and environment and how you fit into it. Perhaps jotting down your memoirs can bring the missed and more dramatic moments back into you mind. Even if things seem quiet now, it is probably only you who is holding yourself back from more exciting adventures. The minute you feel like getting back to it, do it. You’ll be surprised by how easy it is to get back into the swing of things. Enjoying the porch or the garden of your home can lead to a sense of inner calm and quiet after so many years of work, struggles or difficulty.
Keywords: Retreating into one’s self and reflecting. Quiet confidence in knowing that one can conquer life’s storms and come out wiser. Observing life from afar. Wanting to opt out. Retirement, pensions and pension plans. Being let go from one’s job. Redundancy. The story of ones life. Rocking chairs and verandahs. Contemplation. Memoirs. Gardening. Longing for calmer days. Houses, cottages. Inward withdrawal.
The Caution: Ignoring what is happening now in favor of memories. Inability to get going. Disconnecting from current reality. Feeling lazy and unable to get going. The impression that the world owes you a living. Feeling jaded and worn out. Envying those with more energy that are ‘“out there’” in the world. Wanting others to do the work or look after you. Complacency. Giving in and giving up. Hangovers. Opting out before one's time.

People are always asking me when I’m going to retire. Why should I? I’ve got it two ways–I’m still making movies, and I’m a senior citizen, so I can see myself at half price. George Burns
Further to the Sea Captain degree is the degree after - the Moon and the Sun move rather quickly on to the following degree, which further paints the picture. This degree is
Leo 14: CHERUB-LIKE, A HUMAN SOUL WHISPERS INTO EVERY RECEPTIVE EAR, SEEKING TO MANIFEST
Commentary: ‘Cherub-Like, A Human Soul Whispers Into Every Receptive Ear, Seeking to Manifest’ is a Symbol of the desire to be heard and taken seriously. This ‘Human Soul’ is trying to find a ‘Receptive Ear’, someone who will listen to or agree with what’s being said, perhaps to spur others to take some kind of action. Something that has been longing to be ‘Manifested’, said, heard or realized could come out quite suddenly.
Oracle: There is likely to be a deep realization that will transform your life on some level. The time may not be quite right to make the changes, but it is coming soon. Your creative or spiritual aspects are attempting to come through into conscious expression. Listening to your inner voice, along with heeding messages from others, can lead you to the next level of your life. On the spiritual level, this Symbol shows a responsive cooperation in the movement of the ‘Soul’ to new possibilities and opportunities. On the more everyday level, it can imply that in order to find those who wish to join our process or task, ideas need to be communicated in a quiet and suggestive manner, rather than being loud and demanding. Often when there’s a new idea floating around, many people can seemingly come up with it at the same time. This can be rather astounding; it’s like the time for this new thing to ‘Manifest’ has come and those that are ‘Receptive’ to the message will hear and respond to it. However, if the messages coming through are not clear, intelligent, or useful, you may become involved in wild-goose chases and extremes of behavior. Parts of the mind can come tearing out – wishing to ‘Manifest’ and make themselves heard or known. Discriminate between what’s important and what’s not. What ever, there is a need to listen to messages at the moment, as something is seeking expression and it needs a vehicle to be able to ‘Manifest’ it. Perhaps you are the “vehicle”?
Keywords: New realizations. New impulses. Seeking to have one’s voice heard. Messages from the other side. Reincarnation. Channeling information. Spirit descending, wishing to make it’s self known. Whispering. Passing on news and messages. Seeking embodiment. Transpersonal urges. Cherubs and spirits. Ears and hearing. The urge to accomplish something. Compassion.
The Caution: Confusing voices. Signs of instability or madness. Feeling that if one isn’t heard, they will miss out. A need to be noticed and acknowledged. Not feeling like one can speak up loud enough to make a difference. Shouting and making a spectacle. Trying to convince others of something.

It seems imperative to take some time out, relax, listen to one's inner voice, release pain and loss from the past and prepare for new beginnings in our lives, particularly in terms of our creativity, productivity and fun.
I'm off to Tucson, Chicago, St. Louis and Phoenix from August 7 to September 7. Perhaps I'll get some time to sit on a porch and reflect....
Greetings from DownUnder
