April's new Moon falls in the evening of April 24 in the U.S. and midday on April 25 in Australia. The Sabian Symbol for this new Moon is Taurus 6: A Bridge Being Built Across a High Narrow Gorge. This Symbol speaks of finding creative and concrete solutions to situations. There can be dilemmas or separations to face and at times we may indeed feel like a tightrope walker. As always, it probably pays not to look down but to keep your focus on your trip and your destination.
From my book 360 Degrees of Wisdom: Charting Your Destiny With the Sabian Oracle:
Keywords: Overcoming distance and separation. Endeavoring to build continuity. Solving problems with creative solutions. Bridging emotional chasms. Spanning gaps. Breaking down barriers. Structures spanning distances between places or people. Conquering time and space barriers. Physical limitations overcome. Taking one step at a time or giant leaps.
There may seem to be no way of overcoming the distance between you and another, or the outcome or thing that's desired. Realizing the gulfs you face and doing something about any breaks in communications between you can lead to whole new possibilities. Building a "bridge" takes time, energy and most often, the help of others. It may be best to start working toward "building a bridge" now. Once it is completed, the dangers that the "bridge" spanned are no longer of such great concern - that is, unless the "bridge" is not secure. Failure to adequately span the gap may actually feel life threatening. Looking back or down may bring on a sense of danger or instability. Imagine yourself coming to the brink and going straight ahead. With creative thought, physical limitations can be overcome most of the time. Be careful not to get preoccupied or wound up worrying whether things are going to fail. It may help to get plans drawn up, in reality or in your imagination. The Karmic Condition (the degree before) this new Moon is Taurus 5: A Youthful Widow, Fresh and Soul-Cleansed From Grief, Kneels at an Open Grave to Receive the Secret of Eternal Life. This is an amazingly strong degree and quite apt as it comes right before the bridge degree in that we have to move on from the past and into new realizations, places, relationships, beginnings or whatever. This degree is very strong in the hours before this new Moon as the new Moon kicks in just minutes after the degree flips from the Widow degree to the Bridge degree.
Keywordsfrom my book for this degree: Gradual realization of the illusion of matter. Letting go of that which no longer works. Purging and burning the past. Giving up past grievances. The passage of grief. Receiving the gifts that loss and separation can bring through time. Grief, divorce, loss. Redundancies. Near-death experiences. Inheritances.
Issues to do with friends and family needing to (or wanting to) break up estates or possessions of loved ones can be a theme now. Some may be caring for those who can no longer care for themselves while others may be thinking about the financial issues that have to be taken care of. What is it from the past that we can take into the future to teach us about our present? Issues may need to be "laid to rest" so that you can get on with your life unencumbered by regrets or loss from the past.
The degree after this new Moon (the Quest degree) is Taurus 7: The Woman of Samaria Comes to Draw Water From Jacob's Well. This speaks of overcoming alienation through feeling worthy of being able to dip into the well that all share in common. The "well" should, of course, be there for all who come calling. No matter what your tribe, social standing, sexual orientation, whether you're married, single, have children, fit in with others, work or are on social benefits, the Woman of Samaria shows you that you are welcome, loved and worthy. This is a beautiful degree and issues to do with tribes and outcasts and drawing on the well are likely to come up around the time of this new Moon.
Two of the biggest features of this new Moon are Venus and Mars being square to Pluto. This brings up many kinds of deaths and transitions. Watching how we interact with or control or manipulate each other can lead to some surprising insights into relationships. Many relationships will have to transform or die. It seems, though, that this is more a personal journey- very much about ourselves, rather than about relationships, particularly with this new Moon trining Pluto. What are your own needs, desires, goals and aims. Where do you strive for? Self determination and development seem to be the name of the game here, although, of course, how we relate to others is always a part of the picture.
Venus is on Aries 1: A Woman Emerges From the Ocean, A Seal Embraces Her. She is finding her land legs, her feet and her voice. She emerges into concrete and conscious manifestation. Mars is on Aries 3: A Cameo Profile of a Man in the Shape of His Country. How do you see yourself? What is your profile? What picture and face do you present to the world? What is your outline?
I wish you much love at this beautiful Taurus new Moon and there should be plenty of it around. Building bridges, caring about each other, being careful not to alienate yourself and others are key. I love the degree of Mercury just a few days after the new Moon: Taurus 27: A Woman Past the Age of Life Experiences a New Love... life, love, romance, but first bridges and letting old stories and scores lie.
Bridge photo by Lynda Hill taken in 2006 in Southern Illinois on the border with Indiana while I was searching for clues to Elsie Wheeler's life story. This is the bridge to New Harmony - a fantastic place to visit! The painting is The Roman Widow (1874) by Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
