Happening on June 23 in Australia and June 22 in the United States, June's new Moon is the first of two to occur in Cancer. The Sabian Symbol for June's Cancerian new Moon is Cancer 2: A Man on a Magic Carpet Observes Vast Vistas Below. July's Cancerian new Moon, on July 22, is right at the end of Cancer and is a solar eclipse on the Symbol of Cancer 30: A Daughter of the American Revolution. More on that one closer to the time.
The following is my interpretation of the 'Magic Carpet' degree from my book 360 Degrees of Wisdom: Charting Your Destiny With the Sabian Oracle:
Commentary: 'A Man on a Magic Carpet Observes Vast Vistas Below' is an image straight out of the Arabian Nights stories. King Solomon would tell the wind where he wanted to go, and the carpet would rise in the air, landing him in the place he designated. In this Symbol, the "Magic Carpet" can elevate the "Man" above everything going on in his life, making it possible for him to escape problems and fly above and away from them. He is able to see what’s going on from a calm, possibly detached and rather creative state, with his imagination working strongly.
Oracle: Even though you may feel that there are many possibilities, you may be unable to proceed with realistic or grounded plans, leaving you in a state of limbo. It's important to make sure that you are not somehow disconnected from reality. It may be that some of the "Vast Vistas" that are "Observed" are really only fantasy, imagination or wishful thinking. There may be more inspiration in your mind's eye than can be translated into real life. On the other hand, you are probably in a state of heightened awareness and have a broad overview of the situation, which can give you an opportunity to plan for future action. Try to accept any positive opportunities that are offered, but allow yourself time to put these opportunities into perspective. What is really possible now? There may be feelings of isolation. Perhaps you're running away from the truth or feeling that you're the only one who can truly see the whole picture. It is probably best not to rush into anything permanent now. This is something that you have to work through slowly and carefully. Remember the privilege of being given the opportunity of such an elevated view. Take some time, look around, but remember to come back to reality when it's time!
This Symbol can speak of out-of-body experiences, dreams, seeking transcendence, astral projection, missing the point, trying to avoid what's going on, Peter Pan attitudes, not feeling responsible for anything (or feeling responsible for everything), bugging devices, living in a fantasy world. It's great to be on our magic carpet rides, but we may miss out on wonderful opportunities in the here and now if we escape it for too long. Smack opposite this new Moon is Pluto on Capricorn 2. This aspect (the Sun and Moon opposite Pluto) asks us to practice forgiveness and compassion, to make changes in our lives that reflect love, beauty, tolerance and acceptance, to put aside the differences that can cause war between people, especially those who really belong together or who should be living in harmony. It promises a new beginning - the possibility of rising from the ashes phoenix-like, to make big changes in our lives. Healing what's been split apart is a very necessary part of this, not only because of the Sun-Moon-Pluto aspect (which is extremely dynamic), but also because the Sabian Symbol for Pluto is Capricorn 2: Three Stained Glass Windows in a Cathedral, One is Damaged by Bombardment. This degree was the degree of Mars in the September 11 attacks in NY. We can see the 'damage by bombardment' that was caused by the planes literally going through the windows. As I've mentioned elsewhere, the World Trade Center was on Trinity Place (Three Stained Glass Windows in a Cathedral), right next to Trinity Church. Trinity Church was completely undamaged - which is astounding and something to be remembered. With the shattering of the 'window' there is often a loss of faith, hope and trust. Someone may have felt safe within the confines of their life and suddenly a "bomb hits", breaking and demolishing some aspect of their usually safe and secure life. Situations can take some time to heal, although if the structure is sound, fixing the 'window' (the place where the light gets in) can be done relatively quickly. Still, even with the best of thoughts, emotions and intentions, it may take months and even years to feel whole again.
Adding to this energy is Venus and Mars together on the same degree in Taurus. The Sabian Symbol is Taurus 17: A Symbolical Battle Between "Swords", the Disciples of Might, and "Torches", the Disciples of Enlightenment. This also talks about issues to do with hope and faith and the possible loss of it through war. Adolph Hitler had this exact Venus/Mars conjunction and it was square (stressful aspect) Saturn. Here, we have a Venus/Mars conjunction in a trine (free flowing) aspect with Saturn. This gives us hope that with a united front, Venus and Mars (which can be taken to signify women and men), can find solutions to problems, can work together to create harmony and move forward into a productive life. Concentrated, focused energy is the name of the game here.
A day or two after this new Moon, Venus and Mars move onto Taurus 18: A Woman Airing an Old Bag Through a Sunny Window to Give it Air and Sunshine. This is a time of cleaning and clearing out, bringing air and light to situations, getting rid of the old and outworn. They then move onto Taurus 19: A New Continent is Rising Out of the Ocean. This marks the true emergence of new beginnings, the possibility of moving forward into a fresh arena of activity.
This is a very powerful Cancerian new Moon. It brings with it a desire for family, closeness, to be loved, accepted, nourished and sheltered. Issues to do with motherhood and caring and reaching out to others are in high focus. However, with Pluto opposite this new Moon, we will need to let go of old habits, compulsions, obsessions and grievances - otherwise we could get stuck in a round of loss, grief and the devastation of our hopes and dreams.
We need to repair our windows...
