He who rocks the boat seldom has time to row it. Bryan Munro
No man can paddle two canoes at the same time. Bantu Proverb
Like watermen that row one way and look another. Robert Burton
We may have all come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now. Martin Luther King, Jr
The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown. H.P. Lovecraft
I am hearing many comment that they're having a particularly difficult time at the moment, or, their friends are experiencing difficulties and restrictions that are troubling them. It's certainly not an easy time. I imagine that, as with all times, it's a very meaningful one.
Smack on Christmas, it's not an easy time to have Mercury retrograde. Add to that the fact that it went retrograde (I often call it 'wretchrograde') smack on Pluto, Mars and the Moon's North Node (a karmic point of destiny), and we have a potent stew of ambitions, anger, aggression, desires, frustrations, disappointments and passions, etc. Life is certainly not easy for many, and this line up is bound to be pushing some buttons. In Capricorn, the tension is made more manifest as Capricorn tries to contain the energies and doesn't naturally let them out where they can be more easily dealt with. Especially with Mars, Capricorn likes to rein the energy in so it can be more controlled and controllable. With this potent line up of planets, it can be stressful just keeping up with what needs to be done, let alone all the things you may want to be doing.
As I write this, Mars is on Capricorn 6: Ten Logs Lie Under An Archway Leading To Darker Woods. This can speak of a journey into the unknown (or the unknowable) and the need to let go of the past and the barriers and forge a new pathway forward. This can be difficult as there is often no clear sign of what's up ahead or what's available or where the destination actually is. This is the degree that Mercury went retrograde, so the next few weeks may be tinged by this scenario in some way. This doesn't mean you won't find your way, it's more that this is the theme and, perhaps, you'll find your compass on the journey.
With Venus moving very slowly through Scorpio (after being retrograde for forty days and forty nights recently), the energies are ramped up considerably as Venus can be quite intense, demanding and impatient with not being in charge, or, she can be upset about not having fun and passion in one's life. Scorpio wants to relate deeply. How are you going on that score? In the next few days, Venus is going over Scorpio 10: A Fellowship Supper Reunites Old Comrades and Scorpio 11: A Drowning Man is Being Rescued. Sharing a meal, a cup of coffee or catching up with mates (old and new) can be renewing and can be more important than you may at first think.
Mercury and Pluto have been colluding this last week on Capricorn 5: Indians - Some Rowing A Canoe While Others Are Dancing A War Dance. Many are reporting that people are driving like maniacs, short tempered, impatient, and, in some cases, spoiling for a fight. This speaks about some getting on with their lives while others don't, vehicles of discovery versus arguing and bickering, cooperation bringing release from difficulty, mobilizing forces, psyching oneself up, group efforts. The people dancing the war dance could have a Titanic on their hands. Those rowing could end up in the river if too much attention is shown to those doing the war dance. Road rage anyone?
The trick now is to realize that everyone should row together. Mercury is heading backwards onto Capricorn 4: A Group of People Entering A Canoe For A Journey By Water.
Everyone must row with the oars he has. Proverb
This degree has been highlighted for some months now with Pluto and the Moon's node sitting on it for some time.
Keywords for this degree:
Cohesive effort, cooperation and coordination. People coming together with a shared goal in sight. Being continually on the move. Feeling like one’s on a ‘Journey’ of destiny. People all pulling together. Canoes. Boats. Vehicles of discovery. Setting off on an adventure. Entering the unknown. Workshops. Unknown destinations. Setting sail. Observing the weather. Yacht races.
The Caution: Uncoordinated energies. Not going along with anybody. Rocking the boat. The urge to get off midstream. Being bored with close company. A lack of privacy or quiet time. Back seat drivers. No one navigating. Lack of a realistic itinerary.
The question seems to be: where are you heading? What is your desired destination? What are your goals? Who's paddling with you? Are you alone on your journey or with others who have the same goals in sight?
This weekend, the Sun is on Sagittarius 27: A Sculptor's Vision Is Taking Form and Sagittarius 28: A Splendidly Built Bridge. These are the degrees of the Galactic Center and this is an opportunity to tune into the energies of the Sun and to make a wish list, affirmations and decisions about what your visions is and how you are going to make a bridge towards it.
This is always a rather emotionally charged time of year, but with these energies swirling around and upcoming total lunar eclipse smack on the Equinox (more on that in the next newsletter), many are navigating much more intense, powerful and difficult straits than most years.
The message at the moment seems to be to join in with others on your journey where it's going to work for you and to let go of those who might just be into rocking the boat. This is probably easier said than done. What is your desired destination and who is on the journey with you?
