January's Capricorn new Moon occurs on the evening of the 9th in the United States and on the 10th in Australia. This is a very powerful new Moon and one that will have many ramifications - some great, some not-so-great (as always).
For a start, we have Venus and Saturn conjunct (together) on some very interesting degrees. Saturn is on Sagittarius 13: A WIDOW'S PAST IS BROUGHT TO LIGHT. This Symbol, especially with Saturn (the Lord of Karma, among other things) on this degree. It speaks about secrets coming out, the revelations of things that have previously been kept under wraps. It can also be about our fears that such things might be brought to the surface, rather than the reality of it actually happening. Saturn here could show us where we keep parts of our lives suppressed, quiet, out-of-bounds. It may show were we have some regret or shame attached to incidents, especially from the past. Add to this the fact that the day before the new Moon, Venus is also on this 'Widow's Secrets' degree.
Venus, by the time of the new Moon, will have moved onto Sagittarius 14: THE PYRAMIDS AND THE SPHINX. This degree is also very much about the past, sometimes it speaks about the glorifying of it, sometimes it speaks about exploitation, greed and graft. It can also point to an enormous amount of time, energy and resources being poured into creating a business, an empire, a large project, or whatever. It can speak of big business holding down 'the light guy', all the while taking advantage of their hard-earned labour.
Of course, Venus and Saturn conjunct in Sagittarius can mean more than the above. It can also show where we decide to cut off a relationship, stop a course of action, decide not to associate with particular people any more, start a new diet, a new daily regime, etc. etc. We may find ourselves, or others, a little cold and distant as we sort out what's going on, or, what we want from situations or people. Naturally, others might cut off from us and we may have to wave them goodbye (and, in some cases, good riddance as this might have been coming for some time).
We have Mercury retrograde in Capricorn during this new Moon period. The degrees of Capricorn 30 and Capricorn 29 are very telling, and, it seems, there's a bit more of the 'secrets' theme going on here. Mercury, at the time of the new Moon, is on Capricorn 30: A SECRET MEETING OF MEN RESPONSIBLE FOR WORLD AFFAIRS, and, soon after the new Moon, it moves back onto Capricorn 29: A WOMEN READING TEA LEAVES. Both of these degrees can have us realising things about our lives, finding insights into our lives and removing some of the 'veils' that previously prevented us from seeing what is really going on. A word or two with a confidante can shed light on all kinds of situations.
We have a bit of a last gasp of the Uranus/Pluto square that we've been experiencing for the last few years. As the new Moon is very closely aspecting both Uranus and Pluto, we may find issues of freedom vs power coming up - particularly where we give away our freedoms through being overpowered by others. The Sabian Symbols for these planets (see below), also highlight issues of sexuality and being grounded in one's physical body.
Another, very big, aspect of this new Moon is Jupiter and the Moon's north node conjunct (together on the same degree) on Virgo 24: MARY AND HER WHITE LAMB. This is a very interesting conjunction on a degree that can talk about purity of thought and action, issues to do with race, co-dependence, feelings of belonging, relationships and their boundaries, etc. Religion can come into this too, especially as this is Jupiter in Virgo, expanding the 'I'm right and you are wrong if you think, prey, believe, worship, etc, differently than me'. Mary And Her White Lamb can speak of the Jesus and Mary story for rather obvious reasons. Jupiter and the Moon's node can bring about all kinds of good things - travel, expansion, abundance, new relationships, new possibilities, new horizons, BUT, there can also be arguments and explosions when differing perspectives collide.
In the days leading up to the new Moon, we have Mercury and Mars squaring off from early Aquarius and early Scorpio. A lot of hectic energy is flying around and we have to remember to stay even during this time. At the time of the new Moon, Mercury and Mars are still squaring each other, but they are separating and the energy will wane somewhat. I was in my local wine shop yesterday, talking to the proprietor. He said he's looking forward to the end of the holidays as so many people land in Avalon Beach (Sydney, Australia) and they are rude, pushy, demanding, etc. He was quite upset as there'd just been a few incidents in the shop involving tourists. I refrained from explaining to him that Mars was just going into Scorpio AND onto Scorpio 1: TOURISTS ON A SIGHT SEEING BUS... life is something of an amazing hologram... extraordinary.
Here's to more of the good things regarding Jupiter and the node! If you'd like to read up a bit more about Jupiter and the North Node and what's been going on with them recently, you can do so here: 2016: Leaving The Unwanted Behind And Forging New Pathways - Jupiter And The Nodes.
The new Moon each month marks a time of new beginnings and realisations. It's like a birth after a time of gestation or being 'in the womb'. Here, the light begins to return and we can see new beginnings and possibilities. A new Moon means that the Sun and the Moon are both together - bringing a synergy of their energies together. The new Moon is a perfect time to set your intentions for the future. This period is wonderful for planting seeds of whatever kind. What do you want to manifest in your future? Whether you write it down, sing about it or just hold the thought forms in your mind, doing this at the new Moon can realise some fabulous results around the things that you want to draw into your life.
The New Moon is on Capricorn 20: A HIDDEN CHOIR SINGING DURING A RELIGIOUS SERVICE
This Symbol shows singing, playing or enjoying music, and, also, to be able to pick up on things that others don’t see or hear. It can be important to be receptive to your feminine, intuitive side, as there are messages to be heard. Realize that you are not alone; there are other people who feel the same things. Watch out for mental noise. The voices of the women heard more through orthodox halls. Do you want to contribute?

Working together, you can figure out who will help win the race and who wont. Sometimes, victory seems achievable, but you are likely to be a member of a team, with your own special task to perform. The Moon's South Node is on Pisces 24: THE TINY ISLAND SEEMS LOST IN THE BROAD OCEAN, BUT ITS HAPPY INHABITANTS HAVE CREATED A GREAT WORLD ALL THEIR OWN
This shows living with others, sharing the same space or efforts to create a happy life. The people pictured all live together and have “Created a Great World All Their Own”. No matter how well people get along, people still have to compromise and give and take in order to sustain good community relations. Drawn together by similar hopes and ambitions it is ironic that sometimes compromise is the only way to successful coexistence. Making the most of what is available, even though it is restrictive, will help dispel any feelings of being cut off and isolated. Who are you comfortable sharing your space with? Who would you have sharing your desert island?
Keywords: Adaptability and cohabitation. People jammed in. Seeking others of like mind. Knowing a lot of people. Always considering others. Noise and light pollution. Feeling like new blood is needed in order to grow and flourish. Coexistence. Apartments. Living together. People moving in.
