Bring on your tear gas; bring on your grenades, your new supplies of Mace, your state troopers and even your national guards. But let the record show we ain’t going to be turned around. Ralph Abernathy
War is hell. General William Sherman
In other words, a big message at this new Moon is to drop the warring. Of course, that's not likely to happen on the world's political stage. After all, the big boys do like their war toys.
Although the Symbol for this new Moon can seem to be rather ominous (and it certainly can be), it is surely asking us to choose to spread light. I realise I am 'preaching to the choir!'.... it is time to put the warring, arguing, angsting, etc, away. The grand trine between the new Moon and Jupiter and Pluto is a very powerful one, and one that can bring hope in amongst all the challenges we might be facing.

The New Moon is on Taurus 17: A SYMBOLICAL BATTLE BETWEEN 'SWORDS' THE DISCIPLES OF MIGHT, AND 'TORCHES', THE DISCIPLES OF ENLIGHTENMENT -
Without wanting to make too big a deal of it - it IS interesting to note that Adolph Hitler had both his Venus and Mars on this degree. Without too much imagination, we can see the image of the bayonets held aloft (The Swords) along with the torches in those marches that had sometimes tens of thousands of people taking part. It is not a comforting image, but, well, we are almost continually still hearing about Hitler and fascism, etc.
The following is from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees Of Wisdom:
Taurus 17: A SYMBOLICAL BATTLE BETWEEN ‘SWORDS’ THE DISCIPLES OF MIGHT, AND ‘TORCHES’, THE DISCIPLES OF ENLIGHTENMENT
Commentary: ‘A Symbolical Battle’ is pictured here, between the ‘Swords and Torches’. The ‘Swords’ are pictured to be ‘The Disciples of Might’ and the ‘Torches’ ‘The Disciples of Enlightenment’. The ‘Swords’ show weapons and strong-arm tactics, whereas the ‘Torches’ are instruments that bring truth and light. Arguments over ideals can easily lead to 'Battles' and war. This suggests a split between using power and strength and using reason and intelligence.
Oracle: There is a struggle between practical needs and the underlying reasons for having those needs. It can be that someone has become so caught up in “what” they are trying to achieve that they have probably lost sight of “why”. The endeavor to bring ‘Enlightenment’ to people often meets with resistance, particularly when this ‘Enlightenment’ will disrupt the usual process of things. One can see this in places where the media has a stranglehold on information. In some instances it is for political agendas and in others it is for commercial reasons, but the effect is the same: to achieve or to maintain a particular agenda by persuasive force. ‘Battles’ are only truly worth fighting when the ideals behind them are clearly believed in or understood. To do this it is often important to pause and reassess why you are doing what you are doing. If fighting becomes a habit and loses its purpose, the spirit can become confused and therefore weakened. Any confusion inside you is an indicator that the power of the outer world needs to be reconsidered. How can things be transformed and brought into the light of acceptance and understanding so that the ‘Sword’ can be dropped and peace reign?
Keywords: The battle of “might versus light”. The Spear of Destiny. Spiritual differences. Arguments. The story of Hitler. The Inquisition. The Crusades. Bringing love and light to war zones. The pen being mightier than the sword. Peace marches, Candles, torches. Weapons. The might of the media.
The Caution: Controlling those around with rational or brute force rather than with inner enlightenment or knowledge. People arguing over ideals. Forcing opinions on each other. Religious conflicts. War rallies. Propaganda.
The Quest Degree for the new Moon is Taurus 18: A WOMAN AIRING AN OLD BAG THROUGH A SUNNY WINDOW TO GIVE IT AIR AND SUNSHINE
This Symbol speaks of clearing up clutter, washing and purifying and bringing air and light to situations. It often symbolizes psychotherapy and other self-help disciplines that cleanse and purify the mind, emotions and soul. There is often the need to clean out your cupboards, along with your old habits and routines. By keeping everything in your inner self, you can cause a clutter that is restricting. Bring these things to the outer world and see if they are still relevant in the light of day, discarding those that don't measure up.
Keywords: Psychoanalysis. Past life regressions or memories. Doing domestic chores with a feeling of purpose. Work shopping ideas. Bringing light and freshness to old feelings. Renewal. Throwing out the old or outlived. Cleaning out rooms. Renovations. Letting the sunshine in.
The Caution: Expecting others to take responsibility for cleaning up and airing out. Hanging onto old, outworn things and memories. Endless chatter about things that need to be forgotten.
The Moon symbolizes: Emotions, moods, mother, family, clan, domestic issues, relationship to home and country. Feelings, sentiments, nourishment, emotional nurturing, monkey chatter mind, lunar and menstrual cycles, clarity of emotions or lunacy. Female energy - yours and others.

This Symbol implies a talent for bringing calm, protection and good tidings to those who need help. Although there may be trouble all around, you are able to rise above this and find safe ground. You may have to cross over into the dark side in order to bring order and safety to people’s lives. Even though you, or someone else, may be lost from sight for a while and some may feel abandoned, they will return and bring guidance to safety and reassurance. You may need to send, or receive, a message to those who could be feeling left out and in need of reassurance.
Keywords: Transcending worries through spiritual awareness. Prophetic missions. Peace. Healing messages from the "other side". Overcoming phobias. Fearlessness. Feelings of immortality. Going straight for the objective. Calming troubled minds. Redemption and messages of hope. Couriers.

The Karmic Degree for Mercury is Taurus 21: A MOVING FINGER POINTS TO SIGNIFICANT PASSAGES IN A BOOK
This Symbol points to going by the book and taking things as rules to be lived or taking things literally. You may feel that you know all about life, or that you need to learn all about it. You could feel as though you have read the book on life. There are, however, finer details that you may have missed and you may need to look again. There is a clear indication that you could look for something outside of yourself for clues on how to live or how to be. However, be discriminating about what is really significant. Find the essential details of a situation and disregard the rest. Looking for clues. Reading significant pieces of writing. Instruction manuals. Lawyers and the law. Oracles and synchronicities. This degree brings the message of admiring the achievements of others whilst also allowing yours to be recognized and admired as well. Realize that what you need is either at hand or soon will be. Also, something you create can last way beyond your own years. Believing in yourself and those around you can bring a wonderful sense of reward and fulfillment. Try wearing special jewelry to remind you of your self-worth, talent, ability and beauty.
Keywords: Great talent, wealth, rewards and gifts. Beauty that brings joy. Materialization of perfection. Judges of worth. Things that shine. Jewelry, stones, gold and silver. Shops, especially those that have beautiful displays. The rewards and bounty of the natural world. Treasure of any description. Purity. Genius. Crystals. Security guards. Window shopping. This Symbol speaks of the joy and togetherness of celebrations such as Christmas. It shows the need for experiencing or accepting family and friends and celebrating cultural ties, and enjoying release from more difficult times. Activities of the group will bring joy to all those who participate or pass close enough to see. Gathering people together in a common cause in order to celebrate festivities and a sense of family can enliven everyone and give them hope. Joy will spread and life will be celebrated.

The Karmic Degree for Venus is Taurus 8: A SLEIGH WITHOUT SNOW
This Symbol implies having the vehicle, but not the fuel, the gas or energy to get the vehicle going or make use of what’s available. It speaks about seasonal variations where things available some times are not available at others. You may have to make the most of situations without much help. Are you expending energy trying to make things work in difficult conditions? You can often fuel things by tapping into your imagination. What adjustments or improvisations can be made? You may sometimes need to wait until the time is right, to have the 'fuel' to complete your mission.
Keywords: Independence from outer circumstances. Using the creative mind to work through momentary shortages or problems. Anticipating future conditions. Having the "vehicle", but not the time, energy or the "fuel". Improvising things so that they work better or ahead of their time. Gas, oil, fuel. Snow. The value of timing. Lack of resources. The Quest Degree for Venus is Taurus 10: A RED CROSS NURSE WITH WARM SYMPATHY
This Symbol shows caring, sympathy and nursing others so they may find health and comfort. You probably have a lot of work of your own, but you may have to give your time to those needing help first. A great deal of inner healing can be achieved when helping, however, this can be difficult when you have to do too much. You may have to cross over to the ‘dark side’ in order to bring light to situations. Adopt a hands-on attitude when looking after others and ensuring they get their needs met.
Keywords: Unconditional and compassionate understanding and caring. Breaking down the borders between self and others. Always having to find reserves of energy. Mars is retrograde on Sagittarius 7: CUPID KNOCKING AT THE DOOR OF A HUMAN HEART
This degree shows the spreading of love and showing how people can love one another. “Cupid” is “Knocking”, asking to be let in. Barriers and defenses around people’s hearts may be keeping him from getting in, but how long will they be able to resist? Opening your heart and opening the door will lead to new opportunities and realizations about relationships. What are the true depths of your relationships? Soften your boundaries, unlock your heart and allow your heart chakra to open when you are in caring company. Know when to open “The Door’ to allow love in.
Keywords: Respectful invitation of love. Seeing purity of motive. Fear of commitment. Fear of romance. A key or an arrow. Cupids and cherubs. Unlocking the heart. One-pointed, focused energy, which can become obsessive. Softening one's boundaries. Cupid's bow. The need to lighten up one's approach to others.
The Caution: Waiting, not taking the initiative. Rejecting emotion. Fearing losing independence. Barriers and defenses. Seeing potential lovers in everyone. Crashing other people’s space.
The Karmic Degree for Mars is Sagittarius 6: A GAME OF CRICKET
This Symbol shows playing the game of life by the rules. Like the “Game of Cricket”, there are rules and guidelines to go by that need to be respected and observed. It is not so much the game that is important, but how it is played. Cricket is very much a ‘gentleman’s game’ and it is usually played by people who come together from all around in order to side with those they choose to play the game with. You will find that integrity is vital and your honesty will give you rewards, even if there is some initial sacrifice. Careful team work is needed to stop things getting through the gaps; everyone must, to some extent, keep on their toes. Playing by the rules. Stiff upper-lip responses. Seeing through the illusions of what constitutes ‘polite society’. Sportsmanship. Courtesy. Umpire’s decisions. Opposing teams.

The Caution: Difficulty showing one's true feelings and emotions. Being caught out. Situations that are boring and long winded. Silly rules that don’t make sense. Prudish.
Mars symbolizes: Drive, determination or agenda, how you get to your goals. How you express and handle anger, ambition, assertion of self and ability to step forward. The male principle, sexuality, the ability to step up to the plate when one needs to. Fight or flight.
Jupiter is stationing direct on Virgo 14: FINELY LETTERED NAMES AND MYSTERIOUS LINES ARE SEEN; IT IS A FAMILY TREE
This shows deep and abiding connections that come from families and their ancestors and individual family trees. There is a need to feel somehow linked with ancestry, a place or belonging. However, this can speak about you belonging to the larger human family – we are all related. Being able to call upon the deeper inherent knowledge within yourself and what's been learnt from past experience, possibly from one's ancestral roots, will help you find great strength. This implies a strong family heritage, but it may come from having a deep connection with people or things that you are not actually related to, but are in your “Family” nonetheless.
Keywords: Strength in tradition. Belonging to a lineage. The story of where one comes from. Issues of pride of heritage. The importance of parents and family. Branches in databases. Having strong and secure roots. Origins and their relevance to today's life. Ancestors. Calligraphy. Fine pens. Filling in the gaps. Adoptions. Step families. Pedigrees. Kin. Genealogy. Inheritance. Saturn is retrograde on Sagittarius 16: SEA GULLS FLY AROUND A SHIP LOOKING FOR FOOD
This Symbol shows situations of dependence and/or co-dependence. The “Sea Gulls” are looking for sustenance, a place of refuge perhaps, somewhere that’s a reliable source of food. This can imply situations such as social security, foundations that provide food and shelter for people, charities and benefits OR it can imply spongers, borrowers or people who dog others looking to see what they can gain from the things they discard or don’t want. The trick with this is; don't look to others or have others look to you for opportunities and nourishment, for you may miss your chance of being creative and independent. Who's looking for scraps? Are they worth it?
Keywords: Losing sight of alternative possibilities and going for the easy "feed". Issues of dependence. Diminishing one's essential worth while trying to please a specific need. Being opportunistic. Settling for the small things in life. Scalpers. Jettisoning scraps. Leftovers. The rewards and pitfalls of "meal tickets". Issues of social security. The homeless.
The Caution: Waiting for unworthy scraps that may not come. People leaning on each other too much. Bin diving. Users and abusers. Satellites. Hounding and harassing.
The Karmic Degree for Saturn is Sagittarius 15: THE GROUND HOG LOOKING FOR ITS SHADOW ON GROUND HOG DAY
This Symbol shows signs and predictions to give you insights into the future. The solutions to your questions are often close by and easy to perceive and based in your normal life and relationships. By looking at past experience, you may find the signs, however, there’s a need to look closely at what’s happening as you could find yourself on a kind of merry-go-round; waking up each day to the same dilemma, question or problem. Don't try to read too much into situations, but do take a good look at how you come across in relation to other people. Do you keep repeating the same mistakes? Perhaps you help others get over their past, freeing them up for having a better, brighter future.
Keywords: Looking back, reading the signs. Divination and other systems of inquiry. Seeing society as being to blame. People having a good look at how they seem to others. Wondering how others perceive you and picture you. Prophets that can tell the "weather" ahead of time. Predictions. Prognosticating. Welcoming an early spring. Scrutinizing objectives and possible outcomes. Looking to nature for clues.
The Caution: Scared to act without some message of confirmation. Looking for someone to blame. Relying on the same solution without consideration. Blizzards and cold.
Saturn symbolizes: Authority, rules, discipline and obligation The heavy stuff. What we fear, loss, karma, aging, the establishment, orthodoxy, tradition, status, the concept of time, walls, boundaries, limits, older people, restrictions, patience, conquering difficulties.
Uranus is on Aries 22: THE GATE OPENS TO THE GARDEN OF ALL FULFILLED DESIRES
This Symbol brings up fabulous opportunities and possibilities. You could find yourself in beautiful places with your desires met. There can be the promise of happiness; stability and feeling like you’ve arrived where you want to be. At times, though, you may be right at the point of what you want, but perhaps you need to make the deliberate action of opening the gate; admitting to your self what you want and where you want to be. Perhaps you need to knock, showing your intention of wanting in. Maybe you already have everything you need - look around.
Keywords: Craving happiness. Gardens and their treasures. Trellises and flowing plants. Pathways to bliss. Gates and doors. Unlocking and opening gates and doors. Analyzing your heart's desires. The Quest Degree for Uranus is Aries 23: A PERSON IN PASTEL COLORS CARRYING A HEAVY AND VALUABLE BUT VEILED LOAD
This Symbol shows issues of going to a great deal of effort to conceal from others things that are very important. This could be heavy responsibilities that have been placed on you. You may feel that you have succeeded in shouldering these burdens without others knowing, but in fact it may be apparent to others in the way the burden of your secret is affecting your behavior. It may be necessary to share the load. Are you truly participating in life? Do you always put on a happy face regardless of what’s going on? Wearing black versus pastel colors.
Keywords: Privacy. Quiet determination to get on with the job. Mild manners. Carrying more than one's share, gratefully or grudgingly. Shouldering problems. Bad backs. Victim status – poor me! Secret pregnancies. Doing overtime. Heavy loads. Smiling against the odds. Pastel colors. Codes of silence.
The Caution: Trying to cover up distrust and greed. Keeping ones thoughts and emotions locked in can create dis-ease. Feeling unnoticed or unworthy or weak. Bad backs.

Neptune is on Pisces 12: AN EXAMINATION OF INITIATES IN THE SANCTUARY OF AN OCCULT BROTHERHOOD
This Symbol shows passing the tests that life, other people, spirituality or karma throws at you. You are likely to find at times that you are being judged by those above or around you. It is difficult to see what their qualifications to judge you are, but this is often the nature of progression through the ranks. People being critical of one another can lead to better behavior, better performances or the like, or it can lead to feeling judged, violated and intruded upon. It can seem as though our lives are like lessons; we are periodically “Examined” to see how we are doing on our course. Be careful not to shut yourself away to avoid being seen or having to endure criticism.
Keywords: The ordeal that comes to any initiate for entrance into higher realms of being. Hermits. Tests, examinations, having to prove oneself. Being judged or being judgmental. Being cross-examined. Rarefied atmospheres that demand personal sacrifice. Initiations. Proving courage and purity. Trials. The attainment of knowledge. Apprenticeships. Being a candidate. The Caution: Refusing advice. Arrogance. People saying 'I told you so'. Invading other's space. People assuming they know the truth about someone. Failing. Scandals. Stories.
The Quest Degree for Neptune is Pisces 13: A SWORD, USED IN MANY BATTLES, IS NOW IN A MUSEUM
This shows knowing when to stop battling in life, when to lay down one’s “Sword” and take up a higher position that reflects a more intelligent or spiritual way of being in the world. Sometimes, when reminded of the battles of the past, we are influenced towards actions that ensure peace. We are uplifted by the symbolic memory of past deeds of valor, although stings of defeat may be part of the story. You may be faced with the choice of fighting or reasoning which is confused by your lack of training or experience in the ways of “Battle”. Don’t go down with the ship. It helps to lay down one's 'sword' - not in order to surrender, but to stop the 'warring'
Keywords: Willpower. Martial arts. Putting aside thoughts of vengeance and revenge. Hanging up or laying down one's 'Sword'. Trophies of conquest that remind us of the past. History. This Symbol talks about supervision, border protection and control. There can be a feeling of having to oversee a large ‘empire’ where reliability and leadership are vital. This can be a tiring responsibility, but there can be an awareness of the protection of 'all who went before'. However, political and social restraints from the past could be causing you to feel that you’ve somehow got to ‘wage war’. Issues to do with the government can come up, whether you agree with what they do or not. You may be confronted with having to make your presence felt and guard your territory. Effective supervision will help you to relax.
Keywords: Colonialism. Protectionism. The government, big business and the media. Class-consciousness. Power and political displays. Displays of "law and order". Border patrols and protection. Chiron is on Pisces 25: THE PURGING OF THE PRIESTHOOD
This shows seeing through those who hold important positions yet abuse trust or those who make great claims but don’t live up to them. At this time, you’re likely to find yourself leaving others behind, kicking them out, or experiencing falls from grace. Periodically, there is a need to examine moral and spiritual sincerity. It is easy to allow those who don't really belong to stay because of familiarity or habit. We can lose sight of the ideal through our rationalizing intellect, ego and emotive passion. There is a need to cleanse and purify your life, leading to better spiritual values. What side of the “Purging” are you on? Are you the one with the ‘right motives’? Who’s in charge?
Keywords: Revealing the truth of people for who and what they truly are. Cutting people off. Throwing out things that don't measure up. Forced retirement and redundancies. The Karmic Degree for Chiron is Pisces 24: THE TINY ISLAND SEEMS LOST IN THE BROAD OCEAN, BUT ITS HAPPY INHABITANTS HAVE CREATED A GREAT WORLD ALL THEIR OWN
This shows living with others, sharing the same space or efforts to create a happy life. The people pictured all live together and have “Created a Great World All Their Own”. No matter how well people get along, people still have to compromise and give and take in order to sustain good community relations. Drawn together by similar hopes and ambitions it is ironic that sometimes compromise is the only way to successful coexistence. Making the most of what is available, even though it is restrictive, will help dispel any feelings of being cut-off and isolated. Who are you comfortable sharing your space with? Who would you have sharing your desert island?
Keywords: Adaptability and cohabitation. People jammed in. Seeking others of like mind. Knowing a lot of people. Always considering others. Noise and light pollution. Feeling like new blood is needed in order to grow and flourish. Coexistence. Apartments. Living together. People moving in.

This shows being able to see, or to accept, when it’s time for people to move on or to part from each other. They need to “Go Ahead With Their Different Projects” – their focus has changed and, quite possibly, they’ve parted ways. There's a picture here of new beginnings. People will have their own response to situations - not everyone will react in the same way. It can be a good idea to direct some energy into your desires or projects at the time of the new moon. Light a candle and state your intentions with honesty and love.
Keywords: Diversifying. Applying talents in a different direction. People splitting up and splitting off. New opportunities and potentials. The beginning of a new age. Letting go of the old and outworn. Separations. Embracing one's future without the need for others. Coming to a fork in the road. Divorces. New jobs, directions and destinies. The Moon's North Node is on Virgo 21: A BASKETBALL TEAM
This Symbol implies joining with others and working as a team to achieve common aspirations. You may be into doing things by yourself, but you’ll still have interactions with others who will mould how you do things and how you’ll perform. There is a need to cooperate and play by the rules of the game to achieve your goals. Friends and those with similar interests will be able to join with you to achieve a mutually desired end. Are people hogging the ball, not passing it on to others? If so, that won't secure a ‘win’ for you or for the team. How would a referee call that?
Keywords: The give and take of unity and equality. Everyone getting to play the game. Joyful participation. Friendship and sport. Fast footwork. Winning and losing. Being in the team. Playing fair and square. Coaching and practice. The need for a level playing ground. Uniforms. Codes of behaviour and play. Locker room antics. The Moon's North Node symbolizes: This is known as quite a 'karmic point' (although all planets and points in a chart can be'karmic'). One's destiny in this life. The things you are meant to integrate, move towards, become. Destined relationships and relationship issues can show up here.
The Moon's South Node is on Pisces 21: A LITTLE WHITE LAMB, A CHILD AND A CHINESE SERVANT
This shows being able to provide care, safety and comfort to those who need it. The “Child” has a “Servant”; he is well looked after. He also has a “Little White Lamb”, an animal companion, one he can be with, hug and enjoy. In our early years it was the sense of touch that was initially satisfied. If you felt cradled and comfortable, you could grow knowing that all was safe and well. You could find yourself in a place of privilege; cradled from those things that could hurt or challenge you, having someone to look after you. Conversely, you could be the one who’s always there for others, supporting and loving them regardless of who they are or where they’re from.
Keywords: Being protected by higher, more aware, energies. The privileges money and social status bring. Awareness of the different levels of situations. Differing perspectives. Helpers, servants. Care. Being watched over. Watchfulness. Pets and animals. The supervision of youngsters. Purity of vision. Caring for the child within.
The Caution: Social incompatibility. Snobbery. Not having to grow up. Not taking responsibility. Acting the brat. Racial prejudice. The school of ‘hard knocks’.
The Moon's South Node symbolizes: Past karmic patterns to be overcome, can be habits that are good, but can describe things, relationships, issues that you need to let go of, or, hold you back from manifesting your true destiny. Relationships that feel karmic and difficult, memories from the past.
