This September, the moon will pass through the outer edge of the Earth’s shadow in a celestial event that may not be visible to the naked eye. During a total lunar eclipse, skywatchers can often see the moon as it passes through the central shadow of the Earth. During a penumbral eclipse, like the one happening on Sept. 16, sunlight is only blocked by the outer shadow of the Earth, called the penumbra. It will be visible in Africa, Asia, Australia, the western Pacific and parts of eastern Europe. The September lunar eclipse is one of several minor lunar eclipses leading to the next total eclipse of the moon in early 2018. click here to read more about this eclipse on space.com
This is rather enormous energy. I hope that it brings us far more to breakthroughs and positive life decisions that lead us forward, rather than the arguing and jockeying for position that this Sun-Moon-Chiron-Mars t-square could present us with.
I imagine we'll see big events on the world stage with these degrees prominent. Events on the political scene everywhere are likely to be showing these Symbols made manifest, but, I feel that the really big events, possibly extremely surprising things, are going to come out of the US presidential election. Things are very uncertain, on so many levels, and for both of the major parties there in the States, indeed, also for the Greens.

Thank you to those who donated after my last newsletter. I so appreciate it!
The lunar eclipse is on Pisces 25: THE PURGING OF THE PRIESTHOOD - this is a very interesting degree, and, it has been highlighted recently by Chiron, Chiron having sat on this degree for several weeks as Chiron slowed down and went retrograde on the following degree (Pisces 26, which talks about the 'parting of the ways'). Last year, also, the Moon's south node spent several days on this degree.
In Australia, we've had a long-running, intense and deeply sad Royal Commission Into Institutional Responses To Child Sexual Abuse. The testimony and findings in these investigations have been harrowing, and, the main abusers have been priests and brothers in the Catholic Church. However, it is not at all confined to that institution.
This Symbol can bring up how we may have misplaced our trust in certain people. Sometimes, though, we can see through the charades that they perpetuate and into the truth of the matter, but, it can be that those that we *cannot* trust still hold the reins of power. It is at times like this, sometimes, not always, that fate (or karma, depending on how you look at it) steps in and an event happens. It feels like this might be what is coming up with this lunar eclipse...
Of course, this degree can bring up issues of 'purging' on any level - it may be our thoughts, it may be our habits, it may be letting go of something that could have worked out, but didn't.
The following is from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees Of Wisdom -
Commentary: ‘The Purging of the Priesthood’ is an image of people having to measure up to spiritual or moral values. Whoever upholds a position in the ‘Priesthood’ should act in an appropriate manner and minister to the needs of people without any ulterior motives. When people don’t live up to their duties or the expectations of others, it often leads to someone having to leave, retire, resign or be ejected. ‘Purging’ means to get rid of and it can lead to scapegoats: those that are thrown into the desert, abandoned and forgotten.
Oracle: Periodically, there is a need to cleanse and purify motives, leading to a better representation of moral and spiritual values. Sometimes we need to reexamine moral and spiritual sincerity in a person, corporation, community or situation. Getting rid of people or ideals that hold one back can open up situations to more trust, sharing and enjoyment. You may have to dismiss someone, or a group of people, from their duties or from their ability to affect your life in some way. It is easy to lose sight of the ideal through the use of the rationalizing mind, the ego, security issues or emotive passion. However, if someone has not lived up to their responsibilities on some level, often it’s best for the future, and one’s peace of mind, to be free of them. It may lead to a breakthrough in the understanding of where they’ve gone “off the rails”, as well. Sometimes there’s a need to get clearly out of the reach of people’s “influence”. People who hold ‘Priestly’ attitudes often have quite a lot of power and hold on others. People will often give them power, thereby forsaking their own powers in the process. What side of this ‘Purging’ are you on? Are you the one with the “right” motives? There could be a fear of rejection at work. Whatever your situation, stating your truth and staying with it is the best option.
Keywords: Revealing the truth of people for who and what they truly are. Cutting people off. Throwing out things that don’t measure up. Forced retirement and redundancies. Payouts at the end of employment. Dismissals. Opting out for moral reasons. Being fired. Holes left where someone took up a lot of space.
The Caution: Stressful battle over who’s in charge. Blackmail. The threat of being thrown out. Something being revealed. Evicting people because they deceive, lie or mislead or just because they’re not liked. Bringing somebody down. Scapegoating others. Corruption and scandal that threaten collapse. Wanting to appear to be doing the right thing. Coverups. The burning of books. Perversion.
The Karmic Degree for the lunar eclipse is Pisces 24: THE TINY ISLAND SEEMS LOST IN THE BROAD OCEAN, BUT ITS HAPPY INHABITANTS HAVE CREATED A GREAT WORLD ALL THEIR OWN
This shows living with others, sharing the same space or efforts to create a happy life. The people pictured all live together and have “Created a Great World All Their Own”. No matter how well people get along, people still have to compromise and give and take in order to sustain good community relations. Drawn together by similar hopes and ambitions it is ironic that sometimes compromise is the only way to successful coexistence. Making the most of what is available, even though it is restrictive, will help dispel any feelings of being cut-off and isolated. Who are you comfortable sharing your space with? Who would you have sharing your desert island?
Keywords: Adaptability and cohabitation. People jammed in. Seeking others of like mind. Knowing a lot of people. Always considering others. Noise and light pollution. Feeling like new blood is needed in order to grow and flourish. Coexistence. Apartments. Living together. People moving in.
The Caution: Cutting off from others. Resentment of no privacy or space. No chance to be alone. Pollution and garbage. Noise. Loneliness amongst the many. Crowding in.
The Quest Degree for the lunar eclipse is Pisces 26: A NEW MOON REVEALS THAT IT'S TIME FOR PEOPLE TO GO AHEAD WITH THEIR DIFFERENT PROJECTS
This shows being able to see, or to accept, when it’s time for people to move on or to part from each other. They need to “Go Ahead With Their Different Projects” – their focus has changed and, quite possibly, they’ve parted ways. There's a picture here of new beginnings. People will have their own response to situations - not everyone will react in the same way. It can be a good idea to direct some energy into your desires or projects at the time of the new moon. Light a candle and state your intentions with honesty and love.
Keywords: Diversifying. Applying talents in a different direction. People splitting up and splitting off. New opportunities and potentials. The beginning of a new age. Letting go of the old and outworn. Separations. Embracing one's future without the need for others. Coming to a fork in the road. Divorces. New jobs, directions and destinies. The dawning of a new era.
The Caution: Not giving emotional support. Feeling split off and alone. The fear and loathing of separation. Failing relationships. Overthrowing the old too quickly. Fickleness.
The Moon symbolizes: Emotions, moods, mother, family, clan, domestic issues, relationship to home and country. Feelings, sentiments, nourishment, emotional nurturing, monkey chatter mind, lunar and menstrual cycles, clarity of emotions or lunacy. Female energy - yours and others.
The Sun is on Virgo 25: A FLAG AT HALF MAST IN FRONT OF A PUBLIC BUILDING
This Symbol points to recognition for a life well lived or for a notable contribution to society or someone in the public eye. This is about carrying a task through to completion, or, having the enormous desire to leave something, a legacy perhaps, to society that is worth commemorating or celebrating. It also signals a time for letting something go or knowing when to give up or let go. It shows recognition of what's been accomplished. A life may have been lost, or a project finished. This can produce a feeling that something has passed from your life. Grieving may be necessary, however so is assimilating what it took to get where you are, and for moving forward again into the future.
Keywords: Public tribute and recognition. Political affairs. The desire to leave a legacy to society. Having the power to sway the masses or authorities. Signs for all to see. Destinies fulfilled. Coming together as a community or nation to share loss. Judgment on one's life. Appraisal of deeds and character. Public holidays. Obituaries. Taking the time to grieve. Black armbands. Hypocritical mourning for the chosen few.
The Karmic Degree for the Sun is Virgo 24: MARY AND HER WHITE LAMB
This Symbol can show purity of motive and pure and wonderful relationships and friendships. However, it can also point to dependence or codependence where people can't stand to be separate. Hence, relationships may need to be assessed to see how healthy they actually are. The need for constant reassurance that everything is OK can be wearing and put a strain on those involved. Keeping a sense of innocence and purity will lift you up and out of any problems. Be loving and be there for others, but don't let things get out of hand as you could find yourself sewn at the hip with another and not able to get any free time for yourself.
Keywords: Simple childlike innocence or pure escapism. Naivety. The Mary and Jesus story. Dependence. Kindness. Friendship. Bonds between pets and owners. Believing in the essential goodness of others. Hanging out with people. Looking out for someone. Cuteness. The urge to prove something. Dislike of dirt or grime. Being 'addicted' to someone or something.
The Caution: Avoidance of the real picture, through naiveté and a desire to avoid the plain truth. Doubting motives of others. Paranoia. Stalking. Doe-eyed attraction that hasn't got substance. Clinging to people. Arousing jealousy through favoritism. Not leaving people alone. Checking people’s whereabouts. Not growing up. Being the black sheep.
The Quest Degree for the Sun is Virgo 26: A BOY WITH A CENSER SERVES NEAR THE PRIEST AT THE ALTAR
This Symbol implies doing an apprenticeship or spending time with someone who knows about a skill, craft or profession, or, being in an authoritarian position with someone younger or less experienced who is rising up through the ranks, learning as they go. It doesn't matter what part you’re playing; even the smallest contribution is an important part of the whole. Give reverence and respect to everyday routines, and find hope renewed through the promise of what's to come in the future. Either your time is coming as you grow and mature and take a higher position in life, or, you’re handing over the reins to someone younger who’s prepared to carry on with the work.
Keywords: Youthful attitudes. Doing what's simple, with silence and devotion. Participating in the toil but not the glory. Altars and shrines. Incense. Burning candles. Passing down wisdom and knowledge. Looking up to those in power. Work experience. Apprenticeships. Feelings of awe and respect. Religious and social ceremonies. Issues of authority and the abuse of it.
The Caution: Being dominated by spiritual hierarchy. Doing 'lesser things' to avoid responsibility. An imbalance of rewards and responsibilities. Abuse of power. Taking advantage of the innocent.

Mercury is retrograde on Virgo 18: TWO GIRLS PLAYING WITH A OUIJA BOARD
This Symbol can show a desire to contact deeper wisdom, within your self or from outside forces. It often shows up in situations where intuition or clairvoyant energies abound, but it can also show immature, inquisitive energies that want to delve in deeply or to know about everything. The “Ouija Board” is a tool that gives assistance to focus on messages coming through. Of course, many different tools are available in the form of tarot cards, I Ching coins, etc. Youthful attempts at using these energies to discover the deeper meanings of life can bring surprising results. However, sometimes there can be little control over what is coming through from "the other side".
Keywords: Immature curiosity leading to messages and inner guidance. Listening devices. Tuning into possible meanings. Ouija boards. Séances. Clairvoyant abilities. Spirits of the departed. The Karmic Degree for Mercury retrograde is Virgo 17: A VOLCANIC ERUPTION BRINGING DUST CLOUDS, FLOWING LAVA, EARTH RUMBLINGS
This Situation implies situations, attitudes or emotions that slowly gather steam, build up and suddenly explode. It pictures situations of catharsis. There may be, at times, an effort to hold things inside, but after a while there can be no more resistance and everything gets forced out. This can be in the form of anger, or passion, but it can also be the explosion of insight and creative ideas. It often works far better to just let things blow, as resisting the urge to let go can cause enormous pressure to build up. Look to see if the force of emotions is really related to current situations.
Keywords: Thoughts or ideas pouring out. Torrents of thought or emotion. Anger that needs expression. Eruptions that are quickly overcome. Pressure cooker environments. After shocks. Waiting for the dust to settle. Cathartic release. Volcanoes. Earthquakes. Earth tremors. Rumblings. Earth changes. Dust

The Quest Degree for Mercury retrograde is Virgo 19: A SWIMMING RACE
This Symbol implies the nature of competition, wanting to win and doing one’s best. Whether it’s working hard to achieve the win for rewards in the larger picture - your school, club, country, etc, or winning the race for your own personal ends, this Symbol shows that if you put your head down and go for the objective, you have a good chance of winning, or, at least, of being in the race. You may find yourself in competition over emotional issues or working through things to do with relationships and hoping to win, or come out on top. It is through training, practice and the controlled use of your physical energy and emotions that success can be achieved.
Keywords: Looking sideways to see how others are coping with the strain of competition. Competing with one's emotions. Capitalism. The striving for first place or greatness. Swimming, sports, competition. Wanting to be first at everything. Learning how fit one is. Concentrating on the goal. Medals and awards. Training and practice. The Caution: Allowing the competitive spirit to dominate emotional sensitivity. Always going for “the win”. Trying to outdo each other. Being on the go all the time. Bad sportsmanship. Not knowing how to lose. Wanting always to conquer others. Always seeing others as competitors.

Simple unconditional gestures of giving, love and joy that are done for others can revitalize situations beyond expectations. Dropping the "what's in it for me" attitude and adopting caring and sharing ways can bring relief to all concerned. Taking time out of your busy life in order to nourish and protect others can bring rewards far greater than you might expect.
Keywords: Enjoyment experienced in nourishing simple souls. The need for water. Simple pleasures. Innocence. Birdbaths. Fountains. Water. Innocent reaching out to others. Taking time out for others. This implies getting along with people with a live-and-let-live approach. People enjoy the outdoors and each other as they leave behind the stresses and strains of modern life in order to get more in touch with their bodies and their environment whilst having fun and relaxing. At times you may feel the need to get out into the open air or spend time with others or get in touch with your emotions. Joining with people of like mind in a natural setting, in a free and easy way, you can feel the release that can come from reminding yourself of the wonders of nature. The Quest Degree for Venus is Libra 23: CHANTICLEER'S VOICE HERALDS THE RISING SUN WITH ENTHUSIASTIC TONES
This Symbol shows enthusiasm, joy, confidence and the desire to greet each day with the anticipation of new opportunities. It is true that each day begins the same – the Sun comes up, the world is still spinning – but what the day will bring always holds a bit of a mystery. This is a joyous Symbol of greeting and heralding the day, but there can be a blurring of the concept of whether the “Chanticleer” (the rooster), causes or simply heralds the new day. You may be blessed with the voice to speak of new developments, to make announcements and wake everyone up to the realities of life. Don’t make too much of a noise while doing it and you’ll rouse people around you to action.
Keywords: Anticipating new opportunities. Waking early. Being a morning person. Having a clear, beautiful or loud voice. Speaking up when it's needed. Heralding the new age. Seeing things ahead of their time. Being attuned to cosmic forces. Change or renewal. Always being on the go. Being eternally vigilant. Alarms that spur to action.
The Caution: Overstating your role, talents or abilities. Being noisy and disturbing others. Sounding off. Being loud and irritating. Taking the glory and none of the responsibility.
Venus symbolizes: Relatedness, cooperation, what attracts you. The experience of sweetness, beauty or delight. Social interactions, love, friends, how you reach out to people. Feminine persona, relationship with mother and females. Money, possessions, sense of values.

The “Bluebird” brings a sense of “Good Luck and Happiness” and is a sign of good fortune, a comfortable home, and a sense that one belongs, is safe and cared for. This is the archetypal cottage with the picket fence; the vision that many have of owning their own home. It also speaks of natural, positive, good will towards the inhabitants and, probably, towards the neighbors. There is a clear omen of good fortune at your door. Love and happiness come by being warm and inviting. Respond to your higher hopes, spread love to all who enter your house or live nearby.

Whether you are an “Immigrant” or someone looking to move onto new territory, you need to be prepared to venture out into new adventures for the promise that’s offered. Once you’ve “Fulfilled the Requirements”, you can move into this brand new life and reap the rewards. The Quest Degree for Mars is Sagittarius 25: A CHUBBY LITTLE RICH BOY RIDES UPON A HOBBYHORSE
This Symbol shows someone who has everything in life playing and enjoying doing whatever they want in a safe and comfortable atmosphere – the ‘Boy’ does something he feels like doing, something easy and natural. He plays and may not be thinking too much about what’s going on in the real world as he is shielded from the more harmful elements of society because he is ‘Rich’. You may feel that you are doing what is necessary, but this is more like a training situation and will lead to greater ability in the future, although you should watch out for the propensity to be ‘flogging a dead horse’. Practice and play, but one day you're going to have to prove yourself in a more rigorous, demanding situation. Protected practice. Imaginative play. Going on and on about something. Hobbies. Jupiter is on Libra 2: THE LIGHT OF THE SIXTH RACE TRANSMUTED TO THE SEVENTH
This wonderful Symbol shows a time of new beginnings with an implementation of a brand new order. Often, this shows people being interested in attaining spiritual transformation and attainment. As you change and grow there’s a need to respect the value of what is waning, and to take the best qualities with you into your future. This often shows being within reach of your ultimate potential. Some aspects of society are left behind for a higher, more evolved state. Ascension to a higher order is pictured, but there is a need to remain rooted in the reality of practicality, lest one loses one's way.

The Karmic Degree for Jupiter is Libra 1: A BUTTERFLY PRESERVED AND MADE PERFECT WITH A DART THROUGH IT
This Symbol implies something vital and beautiful being “Preserved” so the passing of time doesn’t age, decay or destroy it. Beauty in shape or form has been frozen in one moment denying the natural process of decay. An archetypal death is symbolized; a perfection through sacrifice. As inspiring as this process can be, this can bring difficulties in moving on or changing situations. People can feel stuck, like they have no choice, can’t move forward are trapped or are being used for something that they don’t agree with. However, this does bring some wonderful rewards with longevity and a sense of something eternally good attached to it.
Keywords: Perfection and beauty made immortal. Holding onto things or events from the past. Unchanging realities. Moments frozen in time. Superficiality. External beauty that's lacking animation. Pinning things up so they can be admired. The "handiwork" of creation on display. Transfiguration. Suspension in time. Posters.

The Quest Degree for Jupiter is Libra 3: THE DAWN OF A NEW DAY REVEALS EVERYTHING CHANGED
This Symbol pictures sudden, new beginnings happening in one’s life. Things can change so quickly that it’s hard to believe at first, but eventually it dawns on you that things are different in the light of a “New Day”. Take heart, realize that the darkness is abating, gradually let go of what went before and embrace the new opportunities that beckon. This can show someone who moves around a lot or goes through several big transformations in their lives or have to weather big changes that often come up. However, there’s a need to guard against being fickle and wanting to move on too readily when one should perhaps stay with a situation and work on it.
Keywords: New perspectives and realizations. Waking up to a whole new consciousness or sense of reality. Emerging from depression. Huge changes that erase things that mattered before. Radical shifts. This Symbol implies seeing the body as being ones “Temple”; something to be honored and given respect, exercise and good nutrition. It also pictures linking the spirit and the body. Logic is not always involved in this equation – this mostly speaks of emotions, spirit and physicality. Sometimes we need to remember to be 'in our bodies' and this shows the rewards that can come from regarding our body as our temple. There’s a need to sleep and exercise when we need to, to eat when we need to; to be alive and happy. However, if taken too seriously, one can forget to nourish their mind, preferring to concentrate on physical attributes and forgetting about other possibilities.
Keywords: Connecting the left and right sides. Working out, physical fitness and exercise. Yoga. Grounding reality. Sexuality. Realizing that body is the same as spirit. Remembering to be in the body. Light workers. The acceptance of the body and its functions. Sport and its physical rewards. Metabolic rates. Oil burners. Gas lamps. Aladdin's lamp. The Karmic Degree for Saturn is Sagittarius 10: A THEATRICAL REPRESENTATION OF A GOLDEN HAIRED GODDESS OF OPPORTUNITY
Rewards, awards, acclaim, a sense of presence, charisma and beauty are all the promise of this degree. There will be offers that look too good to refuse, and they could be full of promise, but they should still be looked at carefully. It can be something of a reward for you, in which case it can lead to bigger and better things. You, or someone close to you, could be seen as someone who could totally succeed – a natural talent. It may seem to be the answer to your dreams - and indeed may well turn out to be a grand adventure with a big reward. However, be aware of idle chatter, with no basis in reality.

This Symbol shows being able to proclaim one’s feelings, beliefs, love of country or political opinions, without feeling they are likely to be criticized, shot down or dismissed. Our highest ideals can be expressed proudly, like “A Flag” and as an expression of spiritual purity - “The Eagle” at “Dawn”. You may find that you are regularly moved to burst forth with your ideas, giving voice to what you think and feel. However, some may not like the message or what you have to say, how you say it or where you say it. However, issues that are really worthwhile and 'centered' will be seen by many and heard in the clear light of day.
