The new Moon in Sagittarius occurs on Tuesday November 29, and, it's another very interesting, challenging and rather confronting one. This new Moon is exactly conjunct Juno and is squaring the Moon's nodes, and, Neptune. This can have us wondering about our direction; where to from here, how can we make it to there, what's next in a world of possibilities, how can we trust, how can we rally faith, how can we feel sure of our direction?
Mercury is trine Uranus and square Chiron, so, it is by listening to the stories that we tell ourselves that we can find a new story, a new paradigm perhaps, something that more closely fits the story that we want to be aligning with.
Mercury is passing over the Galactic Center (GC)at the time of the new Moon and for a few days following it. Therefore, this is a fabulous time for making those decisions, those affirmations, to get in touch with our powers of conscious manifestation and this is a powerful opportunity to be doing it. We can be, or become, more and more aligned with our true sense of self, especially if we take notice of our thoughts, words, objectives, desires, etc.
Venus and Uranus are in an exact square, bringing up more of these kinds of questions; are we aligning ourselves with the right purpose, how are our relationships with others really shaping up, are there people/possessions/money issues/moral values, etc, that we are hanging onto that no longer serve us? Are we needing to cut off, say goodbye, move away or somehow disengage from those things or people that run counter to our values or objectives?
Mars is trining Jupiter, and, the aspect becomes exact two days after this new Moon. This can really signal new beginnings, new projects, ideas being put into motion, etc. Both Mars and Jupiter are sextiling Saturn (Saturn is at the mid-point of the trine), so, concentrated effort can bring some good rewards, there can be 'karmic payoffs' for good planning or things that have been set in motion some time before. This aspect can be very rewarding as long as we find ourselves seeking an outcome, position or place that feels safe and sound. No big risks should be taken: Everything should be considered in the clear light of day.
Jupiter and Pluto are in a square aspect. This can bring about big divides amongst people, especially when it comes to politics. We can feel very attached to our political, social, religious or spiritual beliefs, and, we may feel rather confronted by those who disagree. Of course, we may have people feeling that way about us when we say what's on our minds. This can be a good aspect, as long as the energies don't become volatile, in which case big arguments can ensue. We've had this aspect for the last few weeks. I'm sure that most people have felt the impacts of this in some measure, at least.
Here's a link to a recording I made about this new Moon. Listen here.
See below for an exploration of all the symbols this new moon.

Tuning in to the energies of the new moon...
The new Moon each month marks a time of new beginnings and realisations. It's like a birth after a time of gestation or being 'in the womb'. Here, the light begins to return and we can see new beginnings and possibilities. A new Moon means that the Sun and the Moon are both together - bringing a synergy of their energies together. The new Moon is a perfect time to set your intentions for the future. This period is wonderful for planting seeds of whatever kind. What do you want to manifest in your future? Whether you write it down, sing about it or just hold the thought forms in your mind, doing this at the new Moon can realise some fabulous results around the things that you want to draw into your life.
The new Moon is on Sagittarius 8: DEEP WITHIN THE DEPTHS OF THE EARTH, NEW ELEMENTS ARE BEING FORMED - this speaks of a lot of action going on beneath the surface...
This Symbol shows a lot going on underneath the surface, often more than other people would suspect. It speaks of shifts, sometimes huge shifts, going on on a deep level, and these are not always evident. Often, changes are quietly happening and all of a sudden the changes are reflected on the outside through an event or a complete shift in attitude. There will be new responses to life coming from deep within your mind and soul. This creation of new and essential levels of awareness is a part of the natural result of inner changes. Although they may not be easy to observe, very strong fundamental changes are happening.
The following is from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees Of Wisdom -
Commentary: ‘Deep Within the Depths of the Earth, New Elements are Being Formed’ indicates that deep, organic changes are occurring. Whilst these shifts may be big, significant and extremely life changing, they may not be all that obvious on the surface. It seems certain that ‘Deep’ down and ‘Within’, there is a lot going on, regardless of one’s external demeanor.
Oracle: You may find new responses to life coming from deep within your mind and soul. This creation of new and essential levels of awareness is part of the natural result of inner changes and growth. ‘Within the Depths’ of our lives and our very being there are extraordinary layers of possibilities, complications and divergent ‘Elements’. Psychology and astrology can reveal these ‘Depths’, through which the personality can be seen more clearly in its many elements. The way these ‘Elements’ of our lives and our natures are combined results in the complex nature of our being. These ‘Elements’ can be enriched by the experiences of life, the lessons being learnt, and, as a result, new ways of being can be embraced and accepted. It is almost inevitable that this development will occur, but living a shallow existence or stubbornly refusing to accept the inevitable changes that happen within and around us can restrict energy. Allowing your inner ‘Depths’ to be transformed and enriched by life is part of what this Symbol is about. This Symbol also reflects the imminent, or inevitable, rising of these ‘New Elements’ to the surface, and the need for you to look ‘Within’ to benefit from this inner shift. Know that, by the very nature of having experiences in life, we are intuitively creating new potential, greater possibility and deeper wisdom in our lives.
Keywords: Deep elemental processes and change. Shifting of conservative values. Mining in its many forms. Crystal healings. Minerals, mining, colloidal minerals. Organic changes and shifts. Volcanoes and earthquakes. Earth rumblings. Reaching maturity. Earth, wind, fire and water. Mud and steam. Alchemical shifts.
The Caution: Moving forward while elements are still forming. Denying inner processes as unimportant. Not showing any change on the surface. Clinging stubbornly to old and outworn ways. Being afraid of change, particularly that which can’t be seen. Unhealthy growths. Tumors.
The Karmic Degree for the new Moon is Sagittarius 7: CUPID KNOCKING AT THE DOOR OF A HUMAN HEART - this new Moon is saying that we would do well to remember to open our hearts to others, obviously, though, we need to be discerning about who we give our trust to... when we open our hearts, we can find a sense of things changing, evolving and growing.
This degree shows the spreading of love and showing how people can love one another. “Cupid” is “Knocking”, asking to be let in. Barriers and defenses around people’s hearts may be keeping him from getting in, but how long will they be able to resist? Opening your heart and opening the door will lead to new opportunities and realizations about relationships. What are the true depths of your relationships? Soften your boundaries, unlock your heart and allow your heart chakra to open when you are in caring company. Know when to open “The Door’ to allow love in.
Keywords: Respectful invitation of love. Seeing purity of motive. Fear of commitment. Fear of romance. A key or an arrow. Cupids and cherubs. Unlocking the heart. One-pointed, focused energy, which can become obsessive. Softening one's boundaries. Cupid's bow. The need to lighten up one's approach to others.
The Caution: Waiting, not taking the initiative. Rejecting emotion. Fearing losing independence. Barriers and defenses. Seeing potential lovers in everyone. Crashing other people’s space.
Mercury is on Sagittarius 26: A FLAG-BEARER IN A BATTLE - this is one of the degrees of the Galactic Center, and, just some hours after the new Moon, Mercury moves onto the Quest Degree: Sagittarius 27: A SCULPTOR'S VISION IS TAKING FORM. This is the *archetypal* GC degree - it shows us how conscious intent can make things become manifest in our lives - we can be the 'Sculptor' that can bring 'Form' to our 'Visions'.
This Symbol shows standing up in “Battle” carrying the “Flag” for your nation, political, social or moral beliefs, or for some issue that needs defending or supporting. The “Flag-Bearer” is often the one ‘out front’, in front of the situation or the army; the one who’s unarmed and yet determined to represent their side. You may feel that there have been achievements done by you or others that need to be acknowledged. Responsibilities pile up on you, and the struggle is not always easy. Don't worry, though, although everyone around you is busy, they are noticing your leadership abilities. You are often the linchpin of the whole situation.
Keywords: Having the courage of convictions. Standing up for ideals. Representing one's collective in a worthy cause. Carrying the standard or the 'Flag'. David and Goliath. Being the messenger. Advocates. Ensigns. Leadership. Self sacrifice. Fighting for political ideals. Flag waving.
The Caution: The sacrificial lamb. Overzealous idealism. Empty shows of courage. The fear of stepping out of line. Not knowing when to back off. An inability to keep quiet.
Mercury symbolizes: Mind, thought, communication, memory, expression, intelligence. News, exchanges, chatting, conversations, short journeys, connections with others, telephones, emails, siblings, neighbors, the reasoning mind. Day-to-day activities. Cars, keys, small animals.
Venus is on Capricorn 21: A RELAY RACE - and, Venus is exactly square Uranus, so, we might find ourselves cutting off from others, saying goodbye to some relationships, changing our minds about where to from here. We may have to admit some kind of 'defeat' around relationships, especially as the Quest Degree for Venus is Capricorn 22: A GENERAL REVEALING NOBILITY OF CHARACTER BY ACCEPTING DEFEAT GRACEFULLY. We may have to back down on something, but first.. A RELAY RACE -
This Symbol shows working together in a cooperative venture, to know when to go and when to stop, when to take the baton and when to pass it on, and how to pace yourself so you can stay in the “Relay Race”. Each person has to contribute as best they can; some run fast, some have their own talents, some trip you up and cause you to falter. Working together, you can figure out who will help win the race and who wont. Sometimes, victory seems achievable, but you are likely to be a member of a team, with your own special task to perform. You may not be the one who crosses the finish line, but you may, eventually, share in the group effort. Just watch for when it’s your turn and when it isn’t.
Keywords: Shared endeavor. Knowing when to hand on responsibilities. Teamwork. Knowing when to finish. Encouragement and trust. Sharing and cooperation. Inheritances. Timing. Being competitive. Taking turns. Handing on responsibilities. Split second timing. Hand eye coordination. Having an on/off switch.
The Caution: Not letting go of control to another. Feeling defeated. Not having the necessary resources to win. Butting in when others are talking. Not sharing the glory.
Venus symbolizes: Relatedness, cooperation, what attracts you. The experience of sweetness, beauty or delight. Social interactions, love, friends, how you reach out to people. Feminine persona, relationship with mother and females. Money, possessions, sense of values.
Mars is on Aquarius 16: A BIG-BUSINESSMAN AT HIS DESK - I particularly love the graphic pictured here that I found for this degree, especially as the following degree, the Quest Degree, is Aquarius 17: A WATCHDOG STANDING GUARD, PROTECTING HIS MASTER AND HIS POSSESSIONS...
This shows organizing things, running a business, attending to paperwork or generally being very much in charge. A “Big-Businessman” is someone who isn’t afraid to make decisions, take calculated risks, or work often and long for the rewards it brings. It is a fairly big job to organize a business or group and keeping tabs on all that’s going. Being professional and organized brings rewards. However, it can mean putting limits on your personal life. This can result in alienation - particularly if you have to stay behind or say no to outings. Are you living the way that is best for your future, your relationships and physical well being?
Keywords: Issues of being happy in one's career. Making decisions. Management. Being in charge and in control. Calling the shots. The head rules the heart. Delegating duties or jobs. Economic rationalism. Sorting paperwork. Corporations. Keeping a diary. Striking a balance between having a life and doing all that needs to be done. Desks, telephones, computers, faxes, etc. Details and more details.
The Caution: Taking advantage of being in charge. Bossing others. Always being "on the job". Exploitation for personal gain. Getting no exercise. Greediness. Penny pinching. Having no off-switch.
Mars symbolizes: Drive, determination or agenda, how you get to your goals. How you express and handle anger, ambition, assertion of self and ability to step forward. The male principle, sexuality, the ability to step up to the plate when one needs to. Fight or flight.
Jupiter is on Libra 17: A RETIRED SEA CAPTAIN WATCHES SHIPS ENTERING AND LEAVING THE HARBOR
This Symbol speaks of the necessity in life of finding time for quiet recollection. You may feel that the stormy, unpredictable, emotional life is something you can, or need to, leave behind; to opt out. But like the sea captain, there will always be the frustration in the desire to return and get back amongst it. An objective and calm understanding of life's experiences is available, but know when to rest and when to be active and work as merely looking out at the world from a confined perspective and feeling like you have no choice but to sit and watch is unlikely to bring the world to you.
Keywords: Memories and peaceful contemplation. Disconnection from the past. Concentrating on more immediate circumstances. Fatigue and the need for rest. Being a spectator rather than a participant. Being part of an audience. Voyeurism. Turning to domestic pursuits. Writing one's memoirs. Nostalgia. Safe ports or harbors. Retiring from public life.
The Caution: Copping-out, escaping from reality. Relying on past experiences. Refusing to join in. Staring at lost opportunities and times gone by. Frustration. Boredom..
The Quest Degree for Jupiter is Libra 18: TWO PEOPLE PLACED UNDER ARREST HAVE TO GIVE AN ACCOUNTING FOR THEIR ACTS BEFORE THE TRIBUNAL OF SOCIETY - Jupiter moves onto this degree just three days after the new Moon. It seems that there is likely to be a lot of instances of people feeling like they are 'under arrest'; held up, detained, not able to freely get around. Suspicions can be rampant with this degree, and, in the US, there are likely to be some interesting revelations around the presidential election, the Electoral College, etc.
This Symbol implies the periodic need for people to step up to the line and explain themselves, or to justify some actions or ways of being, particularly in relationships. Sometimes our ideas or actions are under criticism, to the point of feeling that someone has offended social acceptability. Be thoughtful about situations, because problems you face may only exist in your own mind, stopping you from having fruitful relationships because of a lack of trust or a failed relationship in your past. You may need to forgive or feel forgiven. Relationships can be held in abeyance until the facts come to light. Things resolve themselves as time goes by.
Keywords: Having to plead one's case. The need for "legal help". Unacceptable principles. Blowing the whistle. Pointing at others to get off charges. People unable to relate. The "Romeo and Juliet" story. Feeling caught out. Restrictions. Karma to be worked out. Being framed. Circumstances out of control. People in handcuffs. Identification parades. Police. The law. Lawyers. Judges. Juries. Tribunals. Police states. Breaking laws.
The Caution: Refusing to conform to society. Sabotaging relationship values. Feeling stuck, unable to move. Telling tales. Handcuffs and manacles. Severe judgments. Unacceptable decisions.
Jupiter symbolizes: The big picture, expansion, exploration, aspirations, religious and philosophical ideals, issues to do with traveling, foreign lands, people and traditions, culture, education, generosity, luck, abundance, support, optimism. Insight through knowledge and wisdom.
Saturn is on Sagittarius 18: TINY CHILDREN PLAYING IN SUNBONNETS
This degree speaks of providing protection for youngsters and children, giving them safety and security and sheltering from the harsher aspects of life. It may, at times, be a tiring responsibility as you have to be watchful for slipups when the protection may fall away – leaving those that should feel shielded open to the elements and the damaging aspects of the environment and society. At times, people can be overprotected, but it is most likely for their own good. Don't be distracted by efforts being made on your behalf; sometimes we need to be shielded by others from harmful elements. Remember to play and have fun, but don't let people hoodwink you or pull the wool over your eyes.
Keywords: Care taken with small beginnings. Protection or blinkering? Propaganda that hides more severe life realities. Censorship. Innocence. Being treated like a child. Mollycoddling. Sunblocks and sunscreens. Screens that filter.
The Caution: Overprotected by institutions. Not seeing the whole picture. Infantile behavior. Being left in the dark. Naiveté. Abuse and neglect. Sunburn. Growing up quickly.
Saturn symbolizes: Authority, rules, discipline and obligation The heavy stuff. What we fear, loss, karma, aging, the establishment, orthodoxy, tradition, status, the concept of time, walls, boundaries, limits, older people, restrictions, patience, conquering difficulties.
Uranus is retrograde on Aries 21: A BOXER IS ENTERING THE RING - Uranus goes direct on this degree on December 29, so, it remains on this degree for a few months.
This Symbol shows that there may be a temptation to take on issues, even to fight, but it needs to be with dignity and regulation. You may feel a need, or the urge, to step up to the plate and take something or someone on. There are rules to follow and often others will be end up being the judge of the final outcome. Make sure you possess the skills and training to defend what you believe. Remember that sometimes you need to back off if you're not winning a contest. Question: is someone on the attack or the defense?
Keywords: Physical or psychological self - assertion and determination. Attack or defense? Fighting for emotional, psychological or physical space. Being seen as a person of strength. Throwing punches. Fighting on any level. Being prepared to take a swing at someone or something. Stepping up to the plate. Throwing down the gauntlet. Going after the title. Big vs. small egos.
The Caution: Using power to dominate people or those who challenge you. Wanting to knock people out. Storming in and taking over. Looking for combat. Being combative.
Uranus symbolizes: The unexpected, things that are individual or 'different'. Charged, energetic dynamics, electricity, light, lightning bolts, sudden changes, those who live on the fringe of society. Sudden turns and twists of fate. Rebellion, surprises, liberation, freedom.
Neptune is stationary direct on Pisces 10: AN AVIATOR IN THE CLOUDS - still! It has been on this degree for ages and ages...
This shows being able to stay on course, not allowing distractions or difficult or confusing issues to deter you from your destination. Perhaps you need to rise above and transcend the more nitty-gritty realities of earthly existence and its difficulties, just be aware that you may not be seeing the complete picture very clearly sometimes. If you take special notice, you may be able to see through illusions, seeing past the surface appearances to things that others miss. You may be able to rely on your spiritual, creative or intellectual skills to take you above and beyond those things that others have to deal with. However, you may also be evading the real truth.
Keywords: Elevated views. Always seeing the best in people and things. Peace and tranquility. The longing for transcendence. Not seeing limitations. Being in a refined "head space". Mastery. Flight, planes, pilots. Avoidance of time constraints. Pollyanna attitudes. Free flights of fantasy and escapism. The need for accurate navigation. Being in charge of the controls. Seeking higher truths. Maps. Compasses. Global satellite positioning. Clouds. Mist and fog. Hang-gliding. Don't "over-control" like a novice pilot. Stay loose enough from the flow that you can observe it, modify, and improve it. Donald Rumsfeld
The Caution: Escaping responsibilities. Isolating oneself. Drugs and alcohol abuse. Avoiding reality. Unearthed. Unrealistic expectations. Missing the point. Evasive.
Neptune symbolizes: Mystical, "out there," spirituality and con artists. Dreams, mysteries, mystics and religious issues. Intuition, clairvoyance, seeing into the invisible. Addictive, chaotic, charming, deceptive, illusory, co dependent, sensory awareness.
Pluto is on Capricorn 16: SCHOOL GROUNDS FILLED WITH BOYS AND GIRLS IN GYMNASIUM SUITS
This degree shows being vibrant and alive and in the physical body with enthusiasm and excitement about life and the future. The “Gymnasium Suits” shows the need to get active and to stay active, to have time in your life to drop into the physical body and enjoy it. If you've been neglecting your physical well-being, it is good to reestablish that affinity with your vitality. Spontaneous enthusiasm and the joy of being 'alive' can regenerate and revive and bring about carefree contact with like minded people. The trick is to bring some form of physical discipline into your life while enjoying it and not feeling forced to do what you don’t want to do.
Keywords: Developing muscular coordination. Sexual energy, attraction or satisfaction. Playing, marching, competition, rivalry. Singing songs of unity. New anthems for the young. The search for identity. Being able to accomplish things on the physical level. Physical fitness. Uniforms and uniformity. Gymnasiums. Exercise equipment. Conscription. Being one of many. Learning how to get along with the opposite sex. Bodybuilding. Level playing fields. Issues to do with gender and sexuality.
The Caution: Showing off. Relationships based on physical or sexual attraction. Feeling only one of the many. Being forced to do things. Rote performances. People that disdain the intellectual.
Pluto symbolizes: Unconscious motivations, depth psychology, history. Sex, procreation at a deep level, intensity, profound emotions, taking hold of one's power. Being king or queen of one's underworld. Strength, survival mode instincts. Big money. Big power. The Plutocracy. Power vs power struggles.
Chiron is on Pisces 21: A LITTLE WHITE LAMB, A CHILD AND A CHINESE SERVANT
This shows being able to provide care, safety and comfort to those who need it. The “Child” has a “Servant”; he is well looked after. He also has a “Little White Lamb”, an animal companion, one he can be with, hug and enjoy. In our early years it was the sense of touch that was initially satisfied. If you felt cradled and comfortable, you could grow knowing that all was safe and well. You could find yourself in a place of privilege; cradled from those things that could hurt or challenge you, having someone to look after you. Conversely, you could be the one who’s always there for others, supporting and loving them regardless of who they are or where they’re from.
Keywords: Being protected by higher, more aware, energies. The privileges money and social status bring. Awareness of the different levels of situations. Differing perspectives. Helpers, servants. Care. Being watched over. Watchfulness. Pets and animals. The supervision of youngsters. Purity of vision. Caring for the child within.
The Caution: Social incompatibility. Snobbery. Not having to grow up. Not taking responsibility. Acting the brat. Racial prejudice. The school of ‘hard knocks’.
Chiron symbolizes: Our wounds, Chiron is known as The Wounded Healer. The wounds are The Stories That We Tell Ourselves, it is where we have to focus on healing, it can show things that are out of shape or misplaced or in need of repair.
The Moon's North Node is on Virgo 9: A EXPRESSIONIST PAINTER MAKING A FUTURISTIC DRAWING
This Symbol shows the talent or the need to make drawings or plans for the future, or for being able to see what’s coming up. Individuality and originality seem to be the uppermost requirements. Draw up your plans with an eye to what you want or what’s desirable. How do they look? Have you considered everything? Even against the pressure for a traditional response, it is your individual creativity and forward thinking that is needed. Although a wonderful degree often showing talent, the trick can be that you can get drawn into what you’re doing, dreaming things up to the point where you exclude other priorities in life.
Keywords: Creativity projected into the future. Seeing things ahead of their time. Taking chances. Having the dreamer's disease. Talent. Seeing things in a different way. Being unrestricted by reality. Time machines and time travel. Artists, architects and engineers. Plans, schemes, blueprints. "When I win the lottery..." Forecasting and prediction. Genius. Sketches. Abstract art.
The Caution: Focusing on tomorrow and not seeing the reality of the value of today. Plans that often come to nothing. Living in your mind. Getting lost in abstractions.
The Moon's North Node symbolizes: This is known as quite a 'karmic point' (although all planets and points in a chart can be'karmic'). One's destiny in this life. The things you are meant to integrate, move towards, become. Destined relationships and relationship issues can show up here.
The Moon's South Node is on Pisces 9: THE RACE BEGINS: INTENT ON OUTDISTANCING HIS RIVALS, A JOCKEY SPURS HIS HORSE TO GREAT SPEED
This shows spurring to action when you need to, to rise to occasions that call for a sense of urgency or speed. Perhaps it's time to extract all the energy possible into situations. The “Race” is on, and you may feel that you can make it to the finish, but still are not guaranteed of victory. What efforts do you expend to push you faster and further than the rest of the field? Ensure that you're not expending all your energy too quickly and not really achieving anything of lasting value. Be wary of bolting out of the gate without knowing what your objective is. Needing to win at all costs can have others feeling like you’re not really ‘in the race’ – just wanting to win.
Keywords: Competitiveness and high ambitions. Wanting to win, sometimes against the odds. Losing and gaining weight. Weightlessness. Racing to be first at things. Demanding quick flight. Bolting out of the gate. Aggressive desires. Exhilaration. Wanting to better oneself. Being on the home run. Speed and the need for it. Facing forward with great intensity. Rivals and competitors. The value of training. Horsemanship. Discipline. Energy poured into the drive to succeed. Starting whistles, pistols or lights.
The Caution: Galloping at full speed, prematurely. Far too ambitious. Jumping the gun. Running out of steam. Ruthless measures. Sabotaging other’s efforts. Addiction to speed.
The Moon's South Node symbolizes: Past karmic patterns to be overcome, can be habits that are good, but can describe things, relationships, issues that you need to let go of, or, hold you back from manifesting your true destiny. Relationships that feel karmic and difficult, memories from the past.
